Storage Devices CD \ DVD Discs
Media that uses a single track, like a phonograph record that is burn onto the usrface of the CD with a laser writer (or burner). This layout of data makes random access of data take longer, this is commonly referred to as a long seek time. CD's have a capacity of between 650mb and 800mb depending upon the disc. There are also dual layer CD's that have multiple layers of burnt data on and in them, these require special multi-head laser burners and readers to function. Hard Disk Drives
A storage device based on a fixed, permanently mounted disk drive. It may be either internal (part of the computer itself) or external (a separate but connected component). Both applications and data may be stored on the disk. Memory Cards
Used in cameras for data storage. Data from Memory Cards can be transferred to a computer either by direct cable connection, camera docking station or computer card reader. Pen Drives
A USB Flash Driveis essentially NAND-type flash memory integrated with a USB 1.1 or 2.0 interface used as a small, lightweight, removable data storage device. This hot-swappable, non-volatile, solid-state device is usually compatible with most computer systems. Pen Drives are a magnetic medium and suffer from data loss when exposed to magnetic fields such as mobile phones, television screens, etc.Zip Drives
A high-density removable disk drive that requires a ZDD reader. Each diskette holds either 100 or 250 megabytes.
